Custom shelf set designed for the 1818E. Extends the life of your kiln and gives you flexibility for loading.
Q: Can I fire to Cone 10 in this kiln?
A: Not in the standard configuration. You can request a Cone 10 upgrade, which includes additional insulation and rewiring. Note that this reduces the warranty from 2 years to 1 year due to the higher firing strain on components.
Q: What type of user is this kiln best for?
A: The 1818E is an excellent choice for ceramic studios, advanced hobbyists, and part-time production potters. It’s ideal if you're working in stoneware, mid-range clay bodies, or doing frequent firings at Cone 5-6.
Q: What’s the difference between the controller options?
A: The 3K-CF is reliable and simple. The Genesis touchscreen offers modern features and flexibility. The KilnStar or V6-CF adds professional-level control for advanced firing cycles. If you plan to run complex or variable programs, we recommend the Genesis or KilnStar upgrades.
Q: Is a vent necessary?
A: While not required, a vent improves glaze consistency, reduces fumes in your space, and helps extend the life of your kiln elements and bricks. For enclosed or shared studio spaces, we highly recommend adding a downdraft vent system.
Q: How long does a typical firing take?
A: A standard Cone 6 glaze firing with proper venting typically takes 7–9 hours, plus cooling time. This varies depending on load size, program, and voltage.
Q: Can I install this kiln at home?
A: Yes, if your home has a dedicated 240V or 208V circuit with a 30 amp breaker. Always consult a licensed electrician to confirm that your electrical system meets requirements.
